Sent my ST46 to Frank for some rebuild work.
Turn around time was fantastic (less than 11 days!)
I am sure this can vary a little based on his workload.
Hope to break it in this weekend, was delayed due to "other tasks", i.e. county workers who cut my water and phone lines and ,....well-you know how it goes!
More later.

Frank is the best, saved two or three engines I got ripped off on various web-sites. Gotta catch him before he goes fishing, though! John from Va [photo not recovered: kiss.gif]

I am still looking for time to break it (the ST46)in. Have run it twice, all seems perfect. It is that time of year when many tasks need to be done at the same time, ie hurricane preps for one.

Does Frank do rings only or does he do complete restores as well?

Remember, you really only need two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape

I sent Frank an St .46 (twin-ring) R/C and a "first edition" G21 .35, with the bolt-on front bearing housing. I just said, "Do whatever you think these need to run well".

He replaced the .46 rings and added a venturi & NVA, replaced both bearings in both engines, replaced all the screws with socket-heads, lapped the tops of the liners and replaced all gaskets. And returned all the replaced parts, with a written explanation of what he had done and why each step was necessary, along with an itemized line-by-line invoice.

Total was about $80 and took about 2 weeks from the day I mailed the engines. His service is about equivalent to that provided by "Doc" Anderson back in the 60s and 70s - Impressive!

From talking to Frank, my understanding is that if he dies not have alot of rings to do, he will restore engines. He has a deal going where he will put muffler ears on old engines, also. I don't know anything about stream fishing, but I believe he lives in one of the best areas for that in the country. He does spend time fishing.John from Va

EDIT: Spelling, yet again. Sigh . . .

Frank restored a Super Cyclone, including making a new Timer Lever. He also "reconditioned" a Torpedo Special. I don't recall the exact breakdown, but the total was only $45, including shipping/insurance. Can't say enough good things about his service!

I'm still trying to get in touch with Mr. Bowman about replacing a ring in a ST 51. I tried the email address someone posted on my request but haven't had a response. Is there a phone number where he can be reached.

Thanks,

James

Just wanted to post a "Two Thumbs Way Up" for Frank Bowman and his rings. Did the ring replacement on a ST-51G today. Perfect fit, easy install. I'm glad I bought the bulk pack deal. Motor seems to have a completely different feel even as it is turned over in just my fingers. Very timely mail service also, given the crossing of borders, which can be a pain sometimes.
