HTML Table Rendering

In a couple posts I've utilized HTML table code to post multiple columns of photos. It works great but I'm finding some strange expanses of "white space" before my table appears.

I've turned borders off "0" and have cell spacing & padding set to "1"

Is this something simply unique to the forum software?

I am guessing, Steve, but it may have to do with the size of the text box that is used to create text. Ordinarily the pictures would be displayed within the text box, but when you use tables in html it may still reserve the text box space above the table.

It would be intresting to see what would happen if you started with the table and included your text at the top of the table itself. That may be the answer.

I am going to do an experiment and see if that works.

edit: Ok, I went over to a hidden portion where I park all the "bad boy" threads and tried playing around with what you had. Aside with making it "prettier" by using a border of 8 and cell spacing and padding of 5, deleting the text above or below didn't help. I could play around with the cell itself and make it the size of two pictures side by side, but could not eliminate the space above. Adding text above, merely pushed the cell downward.

I am therefore coming to the conclusion that somewhere in the software it has reserved a certain space for text, and whether it is used or not, it remains there.

If someone else has a better idea, they can surely come in and let us know.

Well, I tried a couple of items.

First, I looked at the source code for the completed post. The posts themselves are all formatted within an HTML table(s). If I deleted the blank space between my text and the start of the my table, the space is still there but the font of the text within the table cells changes from a serif to a non-serif font (I didn't like the effect).

Also, I tried inserting a new row on top of the table and cut/pasted my text within that cell - meaning I had no text in the post (just the table). Didn't work.

I'm a novice at HTML so I'm still stumped. :'(
