Need help getting some pictures of flying sites.
I'm working with a club in San Antonio to establish
a dedicated c/l flying site. We are making a presentation
to park officials in a couple of weeks. I'd like to
have some pictures of established sites to show them;
your help greatly appreciated here. I'm not sure I can
capture them off your posts on SSW so I ask that you also send
them as a gif or jpg to my e-mail address: [email protected].
Thanks for all you do...I know I'll get a terrific response.

This probably isn't the kind of picture you are talking about, but thought it was pretty neat!!

It is an aerial view from the terra server of the Topkea, Kansas circle. The circle is on the left side with a ball park showing on the right. Notice the trees on the west side that can make turbulence and have done in too many.......

Still a pretty nice flying site.

Great pictures! These will be very helpful.
One of San Antonio's parks has over 900 acres
some of which are a watershed project and would
be ideal for a grass circle. If we can get one
established, maybe there is hope for a first
class competitive site in the future.
Wish us luck!
Thanks again.

One of our sites is a piece of city owned "park" land adjacent to the river. http://www.nwskyraiders.com/riverwalk.html (map)
They couldn't decide what to do with it, and couldn't afford to develop it, anyway. A few of our club members started mowing a circle and flying. Then a second circle. Both circles have concrete center markers, but aren't anything fancy. We keep making them bigger, and can deal with 70' lines.

It seems that we now have about 5 years of "history" there. And wonder of wonders, this gives us some "rights". Sorta like homesteading...I'd suggest that if there is a suitable piece of land, be it city, county or state owned, but especially park land, just start mowing and flying. The worst they can do is throw you off, but it may give you some sort of "prior use" claim on it. Zero litter helps win points. Worth a shot.

The two houses on the map are owned by the Park Dept., one was a "crack house" (several definitions applied), and one is currently rented to a middle aged couple that are ok with the model flying, mostly because we tend to run off the homeless and trouble makers. Mufflers are required for engines over .15, or just common sense applies. The "Valley Freeway" is right behind the houses, so noise is always there to overwhelm mere model engines. Across the river are a few more houses, and just past them, another busy arterial. FAST Combat models are NOT ok...they got us the only grief we've had from noise complaints, and NOT club members. No R/C is allowed (by city ordinance, not us). Steve

Here's some pictures of the new flying site at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville Oregon (Home of the Spruce Goose).

Has a watering system for the grass. And power just in case we all convert to electric and need to charge batteries.
