Fancy Pants ugly nose - mod it, easy or not ?

I am now about 99% decided to buy a Brodak "Fancy Pants" kit from
Paul at psaeroproducts here in the UK.

Only problem I have is the untidy look at the front !

If anyone has built one of these could they advise as to how difficult / adviseable (or not!) it would be to change the engine (Irvine 25 in my case) to inverted and neatly cowled in, with matching spinner, as per many other stunters.

Does anyone have or know where there are any other pics of this
stunter ?

Hi JB,
If you want to do those mods, about all you will have to do is move the motor mounts up on the firewall/formers 1/2 inch to maintain the thrust line. I am not sure if you can simply flip over the kit parts or not (been quite a while since I built one). It will probably be better to redraw the mount positions over the full size plans and cut new ones.
The rest is cosmetic to your liking.

Edit: I suspect that these mods would effectively kill the plane per Classic competition rules.

Look for Fancy Pants (choose the 'and' button) and tick the archive box.

After following the advice ( ! ) I found a thread at

That "Ion Muniz" mentions, at post number 19, the "Falcão .20" from Brazil.

Now I know it says afterwards that the wood is not good, but the model is exactly the type of thing I am looking for.

I have mailed them for kit contents and shipping details.

Any comments would be welcomed...

I built one of these critters per kit...Fox 35, etc. After I slowed the flaps to 1/2 elevator travel, it flew just fine.

The flaw that I found is that the wing mounted landing gear leaves a bit to be desired on grass (maybe even a LOT!.

Sorry...I should have made myself a bit clearer...I built the BRODAK kit....good wood, good fit, and it sure makes a FOX .35 a lot easier to deal with when it is mounted upright.

I would say that the FP nose isn't that awful looking, and think of the cooling advantages, with your motor out in the breeze.

This is not the CL equivalent of Barbra Striesand (or Jimmy Durante , for those of a certain age here, at Good Old SSW) we are talking about here.

The Fancy Pants that I have seen all seem to fly well and all have been the Brodak kit. A scratch built version might be very nice...!

Unfortunately, many beginning modelers chose this one as a first full-fuse plane and build them too heavy.

Inverted engine should be easily doable and will clean up the front end nicely. You'll have to cut some new formers for the raised m. mounts and add a nose ring but thats about all.

A Fox should be about all you'll need.

The cylinder head will still hang out in the breeze I should think as the fuse depth is not enough to hide it - unless you intend making the cowling deeper than the fuse!

Yeh but at the underneath - much neater.

Still, I am stessing over how much fiddling would be involed in making a neat nose / spinner "off the cuff".

And I stll like the look of the Falcão 20 from http://www.casaaerobras.com.br/telas/vcc.htm
but so far no reply from them (in Brazil).

Having recently had a few goes with a friends profile stunter I am hooked. I just want to get a nice 25 size stunter in the air asap !

Come to the Watford Swap end of Jan and see what you can pick up - for instance my mate Irvin bought a Fox 35/Nobler for £60!

Many other bargains to be had there - I know it's a long way but it is the largest in the UK.

Date / time, place and likelyhood of sucess for a pretty stunter - I might be tempted to go for a full size one after all - if it will fit in my car !
