Magnum update

awhile back there was a post asking for help on a sig magnum

well I am finally back to the building board on the one I am doing

WOW! Nice Work. Keep those pics coming. One of these day I will get around to building mines. Sure will be alot easier with those pictures to help.

What engine are you using?
I have a kit coming and wondered if anyone else has a view on best engine for the Magnum. I am spoiled for choice, I have for consideration;- ST 46, 51 & 60, Double Star 50 &60, Moki 51, MVVS49.

here I cheated a little
I used pre tapered balsa

I hinged the flaps and did some trimming

I got the hinge line as close as I could
any closer and it would be the L.E.

o.k. I stacked it all up
and the weight of the raw balsa parts come out to
32oz.

60 in. wing ship not to bad

Is that the tapered cut sheets (1/4 x 3) from SIG that you are using for the flaps on the Magnum?

no they are not from Sig they are from Lonestar

they are 3/8th X 3 with an additional thicker pc. added to the L.E. of the flap to increase the needed thickness and width.

you may be able to see the joint by the color difference

Nice work on the Magnum construction Walter! My only concern is that this plane is slowing up the release of the El Diablo?? Please tell me this is not the case!!!!

All kinding aside, terrific building job on the Magnum!

the Magnum is my top priority but No it's not slowing it down,
as you probably know what a
the El Diablo wing is to build, and to do this exactly the way it was designed could end up a financial diaster. Now thats not saying we are cutting corners just trying to get as close to right as possible and so we are making some minor changes to it and with Ward, Bob and myself all over this thing I believe we will bring it all together before you know it.

this weekend I double checked the stab, set the wing in and made the hatch door for the adjustable pushrod(Bill Byles set up)

ok here we go the Magnums first touch of day light
I've closed in the wing saddle, added the removable tail wheel block
taped the rest on and WITH the gear and axles(no wheels)flaps, rudder,
canopy, etc. basically the whole thing a ma bob and
it all weighs 2 Lbs.+ 2.5 oz.(lets say 34.2 oz)and I'm stealing 1/2 of an oz.

Well she's all together and just about ready for the monokote
with the tank and gear and wheels but no engine it's 39.4 oz.

iT looks like it may come in around the mid to upper 50's
