PIR 4oJ Introduction

The Central Arizona Control Line Club recently collaborated with the City of Avondale to conduct a public access control line demonstration, including a series of flights showcasing a variety of control line generes, a static display and a training session for young potential control line pilots.

The City of Avondale provided the venue, incorporating the presentation into their annual Fourth of July Fireworks Festival, held this year on the third of July at the popular and expansive Phoenix International Raceway.

The CACLC provided the rest as shown in the accompanying photos and threads.

This is the first ever demonstration on this scale, however it's only the best example of an ongoing collaboration between CACLC and the City of Avondale, one that incorporates control line flying into city park planning--good for the club--and increases the profile of the hobby as a quality youth activity--good for the city.

With easily 20,000 spectators attending the Fireworks Festival, the CACLC flight demonstration found itself on the same bill as a rock band, an F-16 four-ship fly-by, a Kids Zone, water rides, a show with animals from the Wildlife World Zoo and interactive games from the Phoenix Coyotes, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Sahuaros.

The venerable Cox PT-19 trainer served appropriate duty as the 'first flight' ship for youngsters attending the Fourth of July Fireworks Festival. A number of these plastic perils were donated to the CACLC for training purposes.

CACLC members young and old showed up to service the trainers, provide demonstration and instructional flights.

The PIR 4oJ series is great. My only wish is that you had explained right up front just what the heck PIR4oj meant!!! I finally figured it out, but to the locals PIR might mean something, but to me it's just initials and had nothing to do with the clubs name.
Sure hope you picked up two or three new memebers. Get Alex and his Dad into the club. Mom too. She may be more of a spark plug to Alex than dad.

Whenever I break a large posting down in to several downloadable gulps, I put the same string in the title so that a search for that string "VSC 2K3" will guarentee the search results will get all threads that are related and usually no others.

This is a courtesy for users.

For that to work, I need a reasonably unique string, hence the intitials of the event and date.

Cryptic, perhaps, but useful to identify the series.

Plus which, I'm thinking a little curiosity might provoke a click.
