Ambroid Stuka Stunt

Hi: does anybody have a picture of the Amdriod Stuka Stunt kit? Complete plane specs or plans? I see one for sale on classifieds. Never heard of it. High price though, so it must be hot?

Well, you are in the right spot to ask. The Ambroid kit is nothing to write home about though- it's value is derived solely from it's "collectible" status rather than it's worth as a builder's kit. The RSM laser cut kit is light years ahead of it. The Ambroid kit appeared in the early 1960s- a version of one of Don Still's late model ships.

I do want to point out that there in fact ARE people (Larry Fernandez is one that comes to mind) that are wandering about the landscape that can actually take the Ambroid kit and turn it into a beauty.
But it still has more value to a collector than a builder in today's world.

I built one from the kit in 1966. I had a Fox .25 in it. It is the size of the Guillows Barnstormer. I heard that Don Still used the Barnstormer wing and made a semi scale fuselage of the Ju87 around it. It is a small plane and flies fast but is very maneuverable. I had a new kit but sold it to a close friend in Renton, WA and now a photo of the kit is in Mr. Johnsons book of CL collectables. I still have the Ambroid Ares, but it is spoken for. Ambroid used very firm wood. Not too heavy, but more hard and brittle than we would use on anything today. Plans for the Stuka Stunt are still available, both the Ambroid version and the Air Trails version plus the RSM kit is available.

I know who ahs a Stuka ambroid kit !!!! The man his self Don Still I see him every week... He will sell it for the right price thats what he said but I now Don deep down inside he probily won't.

You will have a better chance of him selling the kit than him selling his last flying stuka. I was asking him about the kit the other day and he steered my away from it. Hope the weather is good next month for the funfly in Orange. Love watching him fly his stuka.

I have heard this before, but if you compare the plans, nope. Maybe the wing was inspired by the Barnstormer. Maybe not. They each use a c-tube wing. After that there are enough departures to truly say it is not the same wing.

As to "flies fast", no faster than a Nobler. It's a good design. The kit, however, is a collector kit. All Ambroid kits are collector kits.

The black Stuka Stunt pictured above flies a 5.0 lap on 57 foot lines. not really all that fast. It flies very very much like my sons Skyray. I have been flying it more than my high-zoot Checkmate. Larry, NorCal Circle Jerks
