Balsarite ???

Someone suggested that I use Balsarite on plywood before putting monokote on.
Is there another name for this and can I find it some place like Home Depot? Or am I looking at a LHS / Brodaks?

Look to LHS or Brodak...
The stuff you want should say "for film"......

My LHS is mostly R/C car stuff. I checked Brodak and found Nitrate.
It did not tell me much when I clicked on it. Is Nitrate the same as Balsarite?

It is sold by Tower Hobbies......But they won't sell it to

Same as I mentioned back in November in the post Roman lists above, you could also try the SIG version "Sticksit" Works the same.

Indeed, read entire thread. We have a mere difference of opinion on the value of original-formula Balsarite thinned 50/50 with acetone. I stick by my comments on above noted post and in the Stunt News article where I detailed my techniques in using film. There have been no changes of consequence since publication of that article.

The difference, desired by myself, maybe not needed by others, it that my procedure--stolen from the RC Pattern guys--results in MonoKote being a permanent laminate to underlying wood. It cannot be removed.

Ultimately one must test various ways on some relatively large scraps of wood. Pick what you like and stay with it.

Sig "Stix-It" does indeed work the same as Balsarite, although I actually use the latter product, simply due to familiarity with the product, a known thinning ratio. Again, your choice.
